Review of The Black Crow (New York Tribune, July 1st, 1867)
If you find yourself in New York city at the end of 1866, we encourage you to go see The Black Crook at Niblo’s Garden, widely considered the first musical ever performed. The New York Daily Tribune praised (?) it, saying, “the scenery is magnificent; the ballet is beautiful; the drama is—rubbish.”
